How Does It Work?

Over time, the skin loses its firmness, thickness, and elasticity as collagen weakens and its production decreases. The Ultherapy device emits low levels of focused ultrasound energy, causing immediate firming of the skin and soft tissues and stimulating continued collagen production. The ultrasound energy harmlessly passes through the surface of the skin and into deeper tissues, where collagen is most needed. The added collagen provides support and a natural lift from within the skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?

Ultherapy treatments are excellent for women and men bothered by mild to moderate skin laxity to provide one or more of the following improvements:

  • Raising the eyebrows and reducing hooding of the upper eyelids
  • Firming the skin around and under the eyes
  • Lifting and tightening the lower face to soften nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls
  • Defining contours of the jawline and neck
  • Rejuvenating the décolletage

As cosmetic dermatology specialists, our board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants offer complementary procedures such as laser treatments to improve the appearance and texture of the skin and injectable services such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers to smooth out wrinkles and restore volume. Men and women concerned about a double chin may be good candidates for KYBELLA® injections. We develop a unique treatment plan for each patient that addresses his or her unique cosmetic goals and needs.

What Can I Expect?

For comfort during treatment, we offer Ultherapy patients prescription medication and apply numbing cream to the skin. Once the patient is ready, we locate the deeper facial tissues with ultrasound imaging and then use the Ultherapy handpiece to emit quick pulses of ultrasound energy in precise locations. The entire treatment takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes for the full face and neck and 30 minutes for the décolletage.

Most patients require only a single treatment to attain noticeable firming and tightening. In some cases, a second treatment is needed to achieve the desired results.

How Will I Look?

Unlike with surgical skin tightening, there is no required downtime after Ultherapy treatments. Patients are free to return to their normal activities immediately afterwards. There may be minor swelling and redness of the skin in treated areas that typically fades within a few days. We recommend wearing sunscreen at all times while exposed to the sun.

Many patients are pleased to see firming right after treatment. These improvements become more noticeable over the 2 to 3 months after treatment as your body gradually produces new collagen in treated tissues. As the natural aging process continues, patients may return for maintenance treatments periodically.
