A well-defined chin is universally considered attractive, and excess fat just below the chin can detract from your appearance. That is one of the reasons KYBELLA is so popular at our practice in Atlanta, Georgia. KYBELLA, nicknamed the "double chin injection," is a breakthrough treatment approved by the FDA specifically to reduce the fat that causes a double chin — without surgery.

Learn whether you can benefit from KYBELLA injections by requesting a consultation at Peachtree Dermatology Associates, or call our office at (404) 355-1919.

What is KYBELLA?

KYBELLA is an injectable treatment that reduces submental fat (fat below the chin) using a molecule that occurs naturally to help the body break down and absorb dietary fat. Deoxycholic acid, KYBELLA's active ingredient, begins destroying fat cells when injected in the area below the chin.

Once the fat cells die, the body flushes them away through its natural metabolic process. This leaves behind a sleeker, smoother neck and chin area.

Am I a good candidate?

Aging, genetics, and weight gain can all cause a double chin, which is why it's common for even very thin, athletic people. Exercise and diet are little help in reducing fat in this stubborn area. If you have localized fat in this "trouble spot," KYBELLA may be right for you. We also offer nonsurgical CoolSculpting, which can reduce fat under the chin and on other areas of the body, too.

KYBELLA isn't a skin tightening treatment, so the best candidates are those with fairly elastic skin that will "bounce back" after the underlying fat is removed. Our board-certified dermatologists may recommend another nonsurgical cosmetic procedure, such as Ultherapy®, to tighten loose neck skin.

What can I expect?

We customize each KYBELLA treatment based on the patient's specific condition and his or her aesthetic goals, which we discuss in detail during the consultation. The treatment involves multiple injections spaced evenly over the area, and it usually takes 2 to 4 treatments to get the desired results. Treatments are scheduled about two months apart.

Your provider marks the injection locations on your neck before the treatment begins to ensure the procedure is precise. The number of injections varies based on your needs. We using a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort, and the appointment lasts less than an hour.

How will I look?

Some patients choose to wear clothing designed to hide any swelling in the first week following the procedure. Redness, bruising, discomfort, numbness, and hardening of the treatment area are other temporary side effects associated with the treatments.

KYBELLA results emerge gradually as the fat cells die and are removed from the body. Because KYBELLA destroys fat cells, the results are considered permanent. You can expect to enjoy your slimmer chin and refined profile for years to come.
